Are you welcoming home a new baby soon? Or maybe baby is already here and you are looking for creative in-home newborn photo poses to try.
As a Connecticut newborn lifestyle photographer I’ve got over a decade’s worth of poses I’ve tried.
Whether you are a parent looking to take your own photos or a photographer looking for inspiration, this blog post will break down four type of poses to capture during an in-home newborn photo session.
Ok let’s break it down for my top in home newborn photo poses to try:
Family Newborn Photo Poses
The family photo is so important!! Adding a new baby to your family is a signature event and a beautiful way to celebrate your expanding family.
Some of my favorite places in the home to take the family photo are:
On the bed
A bed that is big enough for the entire family to cozy up on is a great spot for a family photo.
In the baby’s nursery
Capturing the family in the baby’s nursery is a great room for the photo. Have a beautiful accent wall in the nursery? That makes a great backdrop!
In the living room
Cozy up on the living room couch and interact with baby. Have a fur baby too? Have them join too!
Sibling and Baby Photo Poses
Ahhhh a parent’s favorite image! This one can be tricky if you have a toddler or child that isn’t adapting to the new baby well yet.
But it can also be a very sweet and fun pose too.
Some tricks to get your older child(ten) to cooperate for this one is to ask them to hold baby’s hand, sing to baby, blow baby a kiss, etc.
Remember toddlers don’t care about sitting and smiling for a camera for too long. If your child isn’t feeling it, it’s best to move on and try again later when cooperating might be easier.
Mom and Baby Poses
As a mother three times over I can say I love that I have those photos of me holding my babies as newborns. I know we don’t always look or feel our best, but put that aside and celebrate the fact that you just did an amazing thing…you gave life to a new human!!
Show your love for your baby and get in the photo with them. You won’t regret it, I promise.
Dad and Baby Poses
I find that dad’s a usually a big pile of mush looking at and holding their new baby. Capturing these photos are so special so make sure to encourage dad to get in the photos too.
So there ya have it, a small glimpse into in-home newborn photography poses! If you are a parent trying these poses, congrats to you for going for it! Remember it’s not about getting the “perfect photo” (although that would be awesome) but more about capturing this special time in life that goes by in the blink of an eye. You will be so happy you have these memories to look back on as your baby grows.
